As our Christmas Appeal draws to a close we'd like to take this opportunity to share some client stories our team encountered over the Christmas period. Year round our staff are inspired by the resilience and courage of these mothers, fathers and children. For more information on our Christmas Appeal, please click here.
Simon* recently secured a unit and had moved in just in time for Christmas. He told our support worker that he hadn't had a Christmas with his family for nine years due to his unstable housing situation.
This Christmas was the first year that Simon has had his grandchildren together after a long time, and he was afraid that he did not have enough money to buy food and gifts for them.
Simon was overwhelmed when his support worker gave him the donated food hamper from Foodbank, and Christmas presents for his grandchildren, thanks to our donors!
Young homeless man, Jack*, is just 18 and currently couch surfing over the holiday season. He was incredibly grateful when the team at Junction Centre gave him bags full of goodies and donated items, including hygiene products, food and a Christmas present.
When our team explained to Jack that the items were donations from a variety of sources from around the community he said “some people are just amazing”.
“It’s not very often people are doing something nice for me. Thank you so much, you don’t know what it means.” – Jack*, 18 year old homeless man.
In the week leading up to Christmas, Sophie* fled from her violent partner. Fearing for her child’s safety, and her own, she had to leave quickly and left many personal belongings behind.
Thanks to the donors from our Christmas Appeal, our staff were able to give Sophie a food hamper, some toiletries and hygiene products. From the Wishing Tree donations we were also able to assist with gifts for her to place under the tree from Father Christmas for Sophie’s child.
Sophie was overwhelmed that her young child could still have a Christmas. The kindness of the donations left her speechless and close to tears.
